391 (Wilmslow) Squadron Air Training Corps formed on 5th February 1941, initially as ‘Wilmslow & Alderley Edge’. The unit moved to its present site off Dean Drive in 1965 into a purpose built headquarters. Our historical archives show an active squadron participating in a range of local activities and camps further afield. In the 2000’s it regularly won the Wing’s Dobson Trophy & representation in the ACO’s Lees Trophy, coming second in 1999/2000 (the Morris Trophy). In 2011 a new headquarters was built, shared with the Army Cadet Force, that gives us additional classroom and storage space.
The Squadron Crest contains a wizard to represent the local myth that Merlin, King Arthur and his Knights are associated with Alderley Edge. The Squadron Motto “Integrity, Loyalty, Commitment” are the three things expected of all members of the unit.
Wilmslow Squadron is one of over 30 units in Greater Manchester Wing, formed in 2011 with the merger of East Cheshire & South Manchester (ECSM) and East Lancashire Wings. In turn GMW is one of 5 Wings to be part of the North Region of the Air Cadet Organisation.
